Our seafront home in Sant’Alessio is a spacious two bedroom apartment situated on the first floor (one flight of stairs up) of a two-storey building that stands directly on the beach. Its single space lay-out and large balcony doors give it the air of spaciousness and light throughout the day. Furnished in mainly modern style, a touch of Sicilian tradition is included in original Sicilian paintings, hand-made ceramics, wrought iron and carved wooden frame mirror, and hand embroidered traditional Sicilian curtains. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking adventures with electric oven, gas stove, electric grill, dishwasher, blender, Italian-style coffee maker, fridge and freezer. The bathroom is fitted with double sinks and mirrors, make-up mirror, half-load washing machine, shower, bidet and WC. There is also beach furniture, furnished terrace, bed linens, bath towels and beach towels. Views from the terrace include 180° view of the sea, with the coast of mainland Italy (Calabria) visible on the left and Medieval castle of Sant’Alessio on the right. The beach is just in front of the home; it is a mix of sand and pebble that sharply yields into the sea so that you don’t touch the ground already a few meters off shore. The water is exceptionally transparent and there are herds of fish observable even without any special gear; sea urchins and octopus also inhabit our waters further off coast, and you can discover these delicacies from the local fish seller every morning ten minute walk from home along the sea. The water remains refreshing throughout the year thanks to the regular currents coming from the Straights of Messina; this is especially precious in the hot summer months (July through September) when air temperatures may easily reach 35°C: cool water refreshes the swimmers as well as the air, making lunch and dining on the terrace particularly enjoyable.
